Like most I did the research and spent hours looking at reviews for the various hosts. I initially considered InMotion my best choice, then was swayed toward HostICan, but it was KnownHost's reputation, pricing and support that won me over. I ordered their VPS VS-3 (Texas) package yesterday and began to migrate my site. Mind you, it was a little bit daunting because I had never worked with the server side before. cPanel, at first, is very confusing but once you get used to it you'll find it's a robust interface. It took about a half hour to an hour for my VPS to be configured and ready. I ordered a domain along with it, which they registered for me. I received an e-mail with my login info for the various interfaces (root, cPanel and Parallel's Power Panel). After figuring out how to set up my main account, I had my existing site converted over in a matter of minutes. The first thing I did was install a Shoutcast server (for fun) and then started in on some PHP testing. It was during my testing that I needed some support from KnownHost to check a few settings. Support replied to my ticket and had resolved the issue in minutes of submission. I had to create a subsequent ticket for an outgoing issue, which ended up being a port that needed enabled on my firewall. That issue took a little longer to find and resolve, but the KnownHost support team was knowledgeable, extremely quick to respond (we're talking minutes!) and even though I had multiple support reps reply to my ticket, each was more than capable and I didn't have to explain anything at all, they all knew exactly what they were doing and my problem was resolved in no time. I can't recommend this company enough. They mean business and they provide excellent service. Who could ask for anything more? With competitive pricing and managed services, I know I made the right choice.
I've had nothing but good things with KnownHost. Before them, I was only familiar with your basic shared hosting accounts. When I was looking for a VPS, theirs seemed right up my alley. I've been totally blown away by their support personnel. I've had support tickets answered promptly at all hours of the night. I definitely would recommend them to any friends of mine.
I switched from a shared hosting account to a VPS with Known Host. I was a little hesitant because I had great support with Idologic. I just wanted a little more freedom to add modules etc without submitting a support ticket. I couldn't be more pleased. Have had no issues. My sites where all transferred free and everything went smooth.

I have had an account with KnownHost for almost 3 years (7/3/06) and have been extremely pleased with the service and support. There have been a very few downtime periods but they were handled quickly and efficiently. I am not sure if they still do this, but when I started they only employed L3 support techs. It is really nice to be able to submit a support request and have someone receive it that can actually analyze the issue and correct it, vs. someone reading off of a scripted tree so to speak.
I have had experience with several hosting companies as most have over the last 10 years or so, and this is the best one I have been associated with. Given their recent upgrades and expanded offerings I see no reason I would ever go anywhere else given that they now have an upgrade path for those that outgrow a VPS and need a dedicated server.

Try KnownHost first. They've hosted my WordPress blog for my business for several years now and the responsiveness through their customer-service is reason enough to stay with them.
They're known to be a little pricier than other providers perhaps, but I switched to them from a lower-priced provider so I could get honest feedback about my site and about my business.
From hosting plans that cost $4 a month, to reseller plans that cost $24 a month to finally a fully managed VPS with knownhost costing $46 a month.
I know for many especially people who are new to internet marketing will feel somewhat reluctant to invest more than $20 a month to have hosting for their site and with finances tight at the moment, I can empathise.
However, before I begin this breakdown of monthly investment, it is important to express that this is the first time I have ever wrote a review for a hosting company.
I have been hosting hopping for the past 6 years and am now where I need to be. I too made the huge mistake using the cheapest shared hosting possible, which for the first few months was a good way to learn, but as you advance you will want to be able to do more, learn more and have more.
Being self taught, it was very and dyslexic, it was very difficult for me to fully grasp what a VPS was and all the server lingo, with so many options, worries and seemingly infinite knowledge to learn, it can leave you at times very frustrated.

I found it very frustrating in the past when I needed to speak to the ghost customer services of my old hosting companies and was 95% of the time told I needed to pay for issues or limitations that could have easily been removed or fixed, to me it just felt like a sales ploy.
It is evident that knownhost.com care not just about the things you are passionate about, but have a pinnacle understanding of business and therefore will respect yours.
I know $50 or so might seem pricey, but I am now in my first month and have learnt so much that the $50 is truly a bargain deal. I know many people will still choose the cheaper options out of fear or financial worries, but if you are serious about your business, you need the support and technology to help you.
The knownhost.com team have replied to approx 48 emails within the first 4 weeks and each and everyone of my responses have been timely and fulfilled.
I can not express how happy I am with their services. I dont really enjoy learning about web servers and stuff, however, I have enjoyed getting everything setup, you just need to have a level of patience and explain everything in detail and everything will happen.
Very happy so far and my sites are loading much quicker and I am now in control of my server, no limitations and fully managed so if there is anything I would like to experiment with I know I have the help at hand, no more signing up to forums to get a bunch of nonsensical answers or scouring the internet, a simple email away and they will provide all the details I need.
Just do a search for yourself on their reviews and you too will see that they are a fantastic bunch to be working with.

Out of the few dozen providers we've tested for WordPress, KnownHost showed one of the best results. Fast loading times, an easy UI, fast and friendly customer support, awesome features, and more. Definitely recommend them if you're looking for managed hosting.
Speed of this VPS is remarkable, especially when considering the base price - which is about as low as a VPS gets. Support so far quite good. Easy to work with the base Webmin system; no weird gotchas. BFD, OSSEC, etc all installed OK. Running at nearly 99% idle - FAR FAR better than the pricier 1&1 VPS which had more gotchas than a used car dealer.
I've been a knownhost customer for a few months now, and all that I can say is they do live up to the hype! Fast friendly support from knowledgeable people.
I switched for KnownHost VPS from Wiredtree(that's another horrible story) on 09/21/2009 and I thought I could finally get a reliable web hosting. However, I was wrong.
There are many times that I have to refresh several times before I can access my site webpage or the ftp. The site was very unstable that it down for a minute, then up, then down for a minute.
I really need to admit that they have very fast response time for the tickets. Their support told me that everything was normal, memory use, http service is up, but I keep receiving site down notifications from my both site monitor services.
A couple of days ago, I had the same problem again. After several support tickets, Knownhost are still telling that everything is fine, but I still kept receiving pingdom site monitor notifications. I had a total of 21 down alerts and 21 up again alerts.
Then after a couple of hours, they told me that my VPS server was under a DOS attack! So I had no choice but moving to another VPS company.

This is a mixed review of KnownHost.
Pros: KnownHost's web hosting service is exceptionally fast and technical support is above-average up to a point. What do I mean by that? Well, KnownHost was "rebranded" around 2005 from "RocketVPS." They focus on VPS and dedicated servers.
Cons: All shared service offered by KnownHost has limits on inodes, files, etc. clearly designed to up-sell. In fact, if you ask why the limits, the response will be "the next upgrade for the plan would be one of our entry level VPS or Cloud packages." So, if you are looking for sharing hosting, my suggestion is to look elsewhere.
all i can say about this hosting provider if you read this anywhere. run away from it.

shared hosting will get you banned when your website gets high traffic.
i recently ran into a big problem for myself with rocket vps and known host.. if you don't already know, rocketvps is known hosts unmanaged service company (known host is managed).. i started off with rocket vps and had a few vulnerability issues on my behalf so since I liked the services rocketvps was offering me i figured id grab another box off of known host to have the managed services.. i then sent in a request for migrating both accounts, for some odd reason their attempts failed and were not successfully able to migrate the accounts over so I told them not to worry and that I will do them migrations alone as I needed a few domains to still be hosted on my rocketvps box.. so a few weeks go by and everything is fine and running great besides a email issue yesterday .. until today.. woke up this morning to voicemails from a client of mine saying her web page was unaccessible.. (be cause of a open cart plugin to generate ebay products is somehow messing up) .. so i go to login to cpanel via ip address, to find out the vps was completely inaccessible so I went to sign into their client control panel to see what was going on, and then i was also unable to do that.. i then replied to a 3rd late notice for not paying (which i was going to pay today) to see what was going on, they informed me that i didn't have to pay the invoice that everything has been switched to known host.. which i never requested that to happen and i wanted to keep both vps's.. and now i am having issues with 1 of my sites and their are no backups since everything was actually deleted off the vps on rocketvps.. and the only support (that i actually pay for through known host) is telling me to basically pay the developer to fix my problems because they can not figure out the mess they screwed up!! but the funniest part of it all was first their excuse was because they switched everything from 1 box to another.. now to defend themselves they are saying due to non payment when I have e-mails saying something else!!!
The worst support ever! They don't have a phone support. They suspended our VPS server WITHOUT notice at all. Like that, flipped the switch and turned it off.
They could have at the very least called us. Absolutely disgraceful support.
Things with KnownHost were going fine for a while until their hardware suffered a critical failure and the only backup on the system that WASN'T corrupt for some reason was from 6 months prior. That meant I lost six months of site updates, user contributed content, and hard work. You would think they would at least have offered to refund me for the six months of hosting fees I paid for that they lost all content for. Nope. I am issuing this warning to any people looking for a hosting provider... if you are not one of those individuals who backs up their full website on YOUR OWN personal computer on a daily basis... don't use KnownHost. Switching to somebody who has a backup system offsite and who knows how to treat a good customer.
Worst hosting experience ever.
My sites were constantly being hacked as compared to similar sites on a different host (based in Australia) that never seemed to be attacked.
Their so called customer service consists of lots of cut and paste emails mainly.
They had the audacity to take my site down on a Friday evening due to what they termed a phishing risk - had they checked they would have seen that I have removed the infected files.
Because their "abuse team" only work bank hours - monday to friday, 9am-5pm - it meant my site was down the entire weekend. My client was having melt downs.
Pleas to the "support team" were ignored - in fact they seemed to revel in the power they had over me.
A really horrible, awful experience dealing with these guys.
Totally unprofessional. I couldnt advise more strongly to look elsewhere.
Yes they are cheap and like most things in life, you absolutely get what you pay for.
